The TIC software has continually evolved since its introduction in 1997 based on customer requirements. With the addition of the “Project” feature, TIC3 has made a significant leap forward adding the ability to provide Road Incident Management for public agencies.

Transportation Technology Tour 2015
toronto-traffic.jpg Information exchange is an important part of the GEWI product development process. In addition to collecting requirements from existing customers, GEWI regularly schedules meetings with various types of users to listen to challenges they are having in their business area, and share the latest traffic technologies in use around the world.
The next North American Transportation Technology Tour (TTT) will be held in September, and GEWI is currently accepting requests from organizations who would like to participate in this information exchange.
The new Road Information Management feature in TIC and the VMS2DASH project featured at ITS World Congress are two topics of the upcoming TTT, but topics can include any area of traffic and travel information, advanced traveler information systems (ATIS) or the many emerging technologies in development and being used globally.

GEWI ITS America Webinar – 11 June 2015
The ITS America Webinar Series provides their members an opportunity to learn about developments in the ITS Industry and connect with other members on a wide range of topics. At 2pm Eastern US time on June 11, 2015 the topic will be Off-the-Shelf Road Incident Management (RIM), presented by GEWI, who recently implemented this system for a European Customer.

TIC Processing Feature: Project
TIC for Road Incident Management (RIM) is made possible by the TIC Processing Feature “Project”.
Managing road incidents safely and consistently is a problem faced by road and department of transport (DOT) agencies in every state and country. With TIC, road incident management is integrated into shared projects, each with specified steps and fast access to information needed to clear problems.
TIC can be used by agencies to define pre-agreed action plans for each type of incident, and to activate and manage the plans with updates. Predefined action plans are created for different incidents types, such as accidents, road obstacles, poor weather conditions, or wrong way drivers.
Custom predefined process steps
Typical incident management action plan steps include: monitor, detect, verify, inform, respond, and clear an incident. Customers can customize their existing processes and can make improvements after a period of use.
All-in-one Projects
TIC can support many different types of information within one project, and multiple projects can then be related and connected.
For example, a project to clear an incident from an accident can include precise details of the road traffic accident, relevant cameras, traffic and travel event information, VMS message requests, and radio announcements to inform the public.
Fix road infrastructure problems
TIC can also be used to manage processes to correct non-urgent road infrastructure problems, for example faulty VMS signs, poor road surface conditions, traffic lights, cameras, and sensors.
ATIS and eCall
TIC can be used to help support agency services such as ATIS (Advanced Transport Information Systems), and eCall, a European initiative being launched in 2015 for new vehicles.

Danny Woolard Joins GEWI
GEWI is pleased to announce that 20 year traffic industry veteran Danny Woolard will be joining the company as Director, Business Development. Danny will be focusing on emerging markets for GEWI.
Prior to joining GEWI, Danny worked for INRIX following five years working for Australian Traffic and Telematics service provider Intelematics. Previous to his time in Australia he was Technical Director of ITIS Holdings, following the acquisition of Communications & Measurement Technologies Ltd, a company he founded and ran for over for 11 years.
We welcome Danny who brings to GEWI a wealth of experience in the ITS and traffic sectors from a business, technical and operational basis.
TIC for RIM Exhibited at ITS Canada and ITS America
GEWI’s new Road Incident Management (RIM) feature of the TIC software was featured at both ITS America in Pittsburgh and ITS Canada in Gatineau, Quebec Canada over the past week.
Visitors to the GEWI exhibit booth were able to see a demonstration of the new RIM features which enable to handle any type of roadway or infrastructure incident as a project, customized to each agencies specific response protocol.
The new RIM leaflet was distributed to conference attendees and GEWI’s Worldwide CEO Hagen Geppert provided demonstrations of the new features which bring ATIS features to Road Incident Response.

GEWI Customer News – Brandenburg Work Zones
GEWI has recently signed an agreement with the German Federal State of Brandenburg to use TIC to create and distribute Road Works information. The Road Works for the State of Brandenburg which will be then delivered to the State Police who are the official source for traffic information.
The Road Works information will be fused with the traffic and travel information in the German State Police TIC system and then distributed to the public. The German Police have been using TIC for Traffic for more than 10 years and this agreement with Brandenburg will create efficiencies in their system and reduce delays in providing work zone information.
The system is expected to go live in Summer, 2015.

New Road Incident Management Leaflet Available
The new features of TIC for Road Incident Management (RIM) are described in the new leaflet which was distributed at recent ITS Conferences and is now available for download online.
The leaflet describes the capabilities for integrated road incident management and how agencies can pre-define action plans based on the specific incident type.
Standard process steps include monitor, detect, verify, inform, respond and clear – but TIC also allows customers to custom define each of the process steps as well.
The leaflet also describes how TIC provides the ability to consistently manage responses individually or with joint operations teams and processes.
Whether the road incident which needs to be managed is an accident, or problem with the roadway, camera, VMS sign or any other infrastructure, TIC can be configured to manage step-by-step tailored to meet each agency requirements.

Eli Sherer
Eli Sherer
Director, Customer Projects – North America
Eli Sherer began his career in traffic with Metro Traffic Control (MTC) in Boston in 1981 as a mobile traffic reporter. He later took to the air as MTC’s first helicopter traffic reporter, even building his own radio pack, including a custom headset which allowed him to monitor the aircraft radio, broadcast radio and police scanner simultaneously.
In 1991 he helped start SmartRoute Systems, a company which provided on-demand, route specific traffic information.
In 1996 he met with the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for the first discussion about assigning an N11 dialing code for traveler information, and provided background information for the Federal Highway Association’s petition to the FCC.
In 2001 he joined the consulting firm of PBS&J and began working with State DOT’s and the 511 Coalition providing design, implementation and operations assistance for ATIS systems across North America.
Eli joined GEWI North America in 2010 as Director of Customer Projects where he provides project management, system implementation and customer support for customers in North America and Canada.
He also produces the TIC product videos which can be found on the GEWI website.
Away from GEWI Eli enjoys both photography and videography, traveling with his family, and playing guitar and singing with his 14 year old daughter.
While always a Bostonian, he now lives with his wife, daughter and dog near the Connecticut shoreline where he can be reached at eli.sherer@gewi.com
