GEWI Enables Off-the-Shelf Waze Data Integration
GEWI and Waze have announced a new global partnership to further provide public agencies worldwide an “off-the-shelf” solution for collecting, harmonizing, and integrating Waze data with existing public agency data using GEWI’s TIC software.
“As a global company, this partnership is an excellent fit between GEWI and Waze”, commented GEWI founder and Global CEO Hagen Geppert. GEWI customers worldwide can now have access to Waze data directly within the TIC Software platform, enabling Waze data to be immediately related with other agency data already in their system, and the improved data can also be shared back to Waze.
“We expect his two-way data exchange between GEWI customers and Waze to be a powerful tool to help increase data accuracy”, said Geppert.
This partnership is facilitated through the Waze Connected Citizens Program, a free two-way data share that empowers its partners to harness real-time driver insights in order to help ease congestion and make better informed planning decisions.
“Waze provides each Connected Citizens Program partner with the same set of free, data-driven tools and resources to foster collaboration and communication between all partners,” said Adam Fried, New Business Development Manager at Waze. “Working with GEWI allows Waze to further scale the program and create additional opportunities for our partners to collaborate and help each other incorporate the power of crowdsourced data into their traffic management strategies.”

GEWI at ITS World Congress and Gulf Region ITS Conferences
GEWI wrapped up a busy 2016 conference season by exhibiting and speaking at the both the ITS World Congress in Melbourne, Australia and the Gulf Region ITS (GRITS) annual meeting in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
At the ITS World Congress, GEWI’s Danny Woolard joined representatives from Transport for New South Wales, New Zealand Transport Agency, Queensland Department of Transport, and Waze. The conference session explored how these agencies are meeting driver expectations and how traffic and travel information services are using emerging technologies to harmonize multiple data sets from a wide range of sources such as Waze crowd-sourced data.
At the Gulf Region ITS conference, GEWI North America CEO Jim O’Neill spoke in a social media session about the strengths of the various types of social media and the challenges of integrating this data into a traffic operations center.
At both conferences GEWI exhibited the latest features of the TIC software including new Work Zone features for planning and permitting and the many other TIC product features which have evolved since the software was introduced in 1997.
TIC provides solutions for many types of traffic related projects for both public and private organizations including Traffic and Travel Information services, Real-Time Information for Navigation, Work Zones, ITS Asset Management and more. Find more information at www.gewi.com
New Analytics Features Added to TIC Software
The Q4/2016 release of TIC Software will make new data analysis available to GEWI customers.
The TIC Analytics feature can be used with a variety of statistics computed using operation data. Customers can gain insight into traffic patterns and issues on the roadway, and better manage operational performance of both people and systems. Most data available in a TIC system is available for use in TIC Analytics.
Statistics can be computed and viewed using TIC. Customers can also distribute the computed statistics, and even the actual operation data, to a third-party tool for further analysis and viewing. Data can be automatically distributed on a schedule to create daily, weekly, monthly reports, or distributed manually at any time.
GEWI has already created many templates to generate statistics such as traffic events by day, road number, severity, event code type, or number of incidents created by a team or by a single operator. Additional templates can be created to report on most data available in the TIC system.

GEWI Holds Work Zone User Group Conference
Part of the continual evolution of the TIC product is an ongoing information exchange between GEWI and customers to collect new project requirements and receive feedback on new features of the TIC system.
In November 2016, GEWI hosted a Work Zone user group in Werder Germany, near Potsdam, allowing users to share problems and ideas related to their Work Zone process as well to review the latest TIC Work Zone Features.
One of the topics of most discussion was how traffic flow and traffic pattern data from third party providers (such as HERE, TomTom and INRIX) can be used with the TIC for Work Zone solution to enable work zone planning. A representative from one of the major data suppliers provided a presentation on how historical and real-time data can benefit the entire work zone process.
Historical information helps public agencies identify the best times to schedule work zones to minimize impact on traffic. Real-time information allows agencies to verify the quality of Work Zone information such as start time, end time, and exact location.
The discussion then moved to how TIC for Work Zones can be used with Smart Cities projects and on a larger scale how TIC can enable a nationwide data exchange system for creation and distribution of Work Zone information.
Attendees then learned about recent major work zone enhancements in TIC including a new graphical interface for entering lane information for work zone lane closures, reassignment or restrictions, and the ability to issue Work Zone permits directly from the TIC system.
Hessen Mobil is the first customer to use the TIC Project feature for creating work zone permits. This allows customers to implement their agency specific process which streamlines the data that is contained in the permits. Data quality is dramatically improved as all operators now are able to easily and consistently use this same process.
Finally, TIC for Traffic and Travel Events (TTE) enables Work Zone information to be provided to websites, apps, navigation, broadcasters and other systems that provide the real-time work zone information to commuters regardless of their preferred source for traffic and travel information.
The next Work Zone user group workshop is planned for September of 2017. For more information on TIC for Work Zones, contact dirk.raunitschka@gewi.com

TIC Solutions on GEWI Website
Over the past 24 years GEWI has become recognized as a global leader in traffic and travel information software and as the TIC product has added solutions and product features it has become more challenging to describe the many ways TIC can be used as a solution.
Just prior to ITS World Congress, GEWI launched a new website which better describes not only the TIC Solutions, but which Product Features are used for each market.
As GEWI approaches the company’s 25th anniversary in 2017, a new website has been launched to better reflect the continual evolution of the TIC Software.
What today is known as TIC (originally for Traffic Info Centre, but now evolved into much more), was developed in its first generation as TMC Office when it was initially deployed in 1997. Now in its fourth generation, TIC has evolved into a true commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) for many market solutions described on the new website:
•Traffic and Travel Information Services.
•Real-Time information for Navigation.
•RDS-TMC Navigation Tests.
•TPEG Navigation Tests.
•Traffic News Announcements.
•Traffic News Production.
•Radio Data.
•ITS Asset Management.
•Work Zone.
•Road Incident Management.
The new website also has improved navigation features and new page layout which makes it easier to relate specific TIC product features to market solutions.
We invite you to check www.gewi.com to see the latest improvements including the ability to submit customer feedback which is an important part of the GEWI product development process.
New TIC Brochure and Leaflets for GEWI Market Solutions
GEWI has recently updated its videos, TIC brochure, and leaflets to help customers quickly and more thoroughly understand the market solutions which can be implemented using TIC.
The new leaflets feature the latest information and features for each market solution. Existing customers are encouraged to view and read the information because GEWI is constantly adding more features and functions in new innovative ways.
Click the link below to view and download the brochure and leaflets:
•TIC Product brochure.
Market solution Leaflets:
•Traffic and Travel Information Services.
•Real-Time Information for Navigation.
•TIC for RDS-TMC and TPEG Navigation Testing.
•Traffic News Announcements.

As a commercial off-the shelf (COTS) solution, TIC can be deployed and expanded much more quickly and cost effectively than custom build-your-own solutions while offering the most advanced features and functionality.
To schedule a demonstration, or for more information contact a GEWI representative in your region.
Product Videos on GEWI Website
GEWI’s web site includes videos for many of the TIC Solutions using TIC product features. These videos make it easy for website visitors to self-demonstrate the TIC system and to view how specific product features can be used for a variety of public and private sector markets.
More videos are being produced to provide an introduction to other TIC product features, so check www.gewi.com occasionally to view the new videos.
