Navigation devices can show traffic and travel event information on a map and as text, alert drivers, and suggest alternative routes by receiving traffic and travel event data received over FM or mobile Internet.
Traffic and travel information can be delivered to navigation devices by public and commercial service providers.
TIC can be used to collect and create traffic and travel messages that can be broadcast as Traffic Message Channel (TMC) messages with or without encryption over FM using the Radio Data Channel (RDS), or distributed over the Internet using connected services. TIC can regionalize and prioritize TMC messages. TIC can be connected to RDS encoders at FM transmitter sites using the standard protocol UECP, as well as to FM receivers for RDS-TMC service monitoring.
