At ITS World Congress in Orlando, GEWI will unveil a new iPad application to allow users to enter traffic data on the iPad.  The planned markets for which this could be used are Mobile Data Entry and Data Quality Assurance.  Traffic Incident Management and Motorist Assistance are markets also being considered.

Mobile Traffic Data Entry

The user interface developed by GEWI allows for very fast and easy entry of any type of incident, roadwork or congestion via the iPad. 

Data Quality Assurance
Both government and private sector companies have a need to provide ground truth testing of traffic data.  To perform this task, the "follow my position" feature on TIC for iPad would be used.  This would create a route trace including location and speed information.  This data can then be compared data provided by DOT sensors or third party data to compare the actual speed captured in the test drive to the data provided from other sources.

During the drive, TIC for iPad could also be used to enter traffic events.

Traffic Incident Management

Getting accurate data from the scene of an event which is causing a traffic delay is a global need.  The simple user interface on TIC for the iPad allows anyone, without training or technical knowledge to enter current event and delay status in real-time with just a few touches to the screen.

Motorist Assistance

Many road operators and public agencies provide motorist assistance services.  This market carries many specialized requirements including documenting services performed, capturing images of motorist assists or road conditions, notification of emergency responders,  and providing a log of assistance activities.  These services, along with Mobile Data Entry can all be performed using TIC for iPad.

GEWI will have the largest participation in the company's 19 year history at the 18th World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems in Orlando.  Attendees will be able to connect with GEWI at several locations.

Indoor Exhibit

Visitors to the exhibit hall can visit GEWI's indoor booth, #1449, to see the latest features of TIC3 including new camera and weather features.  TIC for the iPad will also be demonstrated at this booth, as well as register for a demo ride in the GEWI / BMW Connected Vehicle in the parking lot outside the convention center.

Technology Showcase

A technology showcase featuring 25 technical demonstrations has been organized in the parking lot outside the convention center at ITS World Congress.  In the Mobility section, visitors will have the opportunity to take a ride in the GEWI / BMW Connected Vehicle.  This demonstration will allow attendees to experience firsthand the "Local Hazard Warning" demonstration.  The demonstration is a simulation of a project in Germany called DIANA2 which will become a commercial service in 2012 to alert individuals about hazardous events ahead for which they will need to be alert to take proper action. The ride lasts about 15 minutes.

As GEWI approaches the 15th anniversary of the launch of TIC, a new marketing message will used to more clearly represent the many benefits offered by TIC3 software product.

The first session, #SS08 will be Monday October 17th from 3:30-5:00pm on the topic of Probe Data collection and distribution.  In his nearly 10 years with GEWI, Matthias has been project manager for many advanced ITS projects and has experience in vehicle probe data from the RTA project in Dubai.

The second session in which Matthias is speaking is #AM14 on Tuesday October 18th from 1:30-3:30pm on the topic of "Using ITS to enable a more resilient and secure transportation network: Global Perspectives."

Matthias Defee is an excellent choice for this topic as well given his experience as the project manager for the DIANA2 Local Hazard Warning (LHW) project in Hessen Germany.  This LHW project is also being demonstrated by GEWI / BMW in the Technology Showcase at ITS World Congress in Orlando.  The LHW project has similar requirements to a project being proposed for hazardous materials (Haz-Mat).   He will also be demonstrating GEWI's TIC for iPad application which is one of several possible options for entering or collecting the Haz-Mat data.

In preparation for GEWI's 20th anniversary in 2012, a new version of www.gewi.com has been launched to coincide with GEWI's many activities at the ITS World Congress.   

Several more improvements are planned for the 2012 version, but the new site already includes new features and improvements from the previous site.

The new website will allow users to locate information about GEWI products and market information much more easily.

A few new items you will notice at the new website:

Improved Navigation

A new menu which makes it easier to see what TIC is used for and used by in more than 125 projects worldwide.  Many new pages have been created which will provide users much deeper levels of content, but more quickly accessed through the use of direct links throughout the site.

New Framework

A new website framework is used to provide more content per page, and organized into a MAIN information window and ADDITIONAL information window to keep the most popular GEWI content readily available to web visitors.

New Videos

Product feature videos are now available for TIC Camera features, TIC for Weather, Work Zones and TIC for iPad, but this is just the beginning.  In the future, more videos will be available not just for product features, but also for user training and customer support.

Newsletter by Topic

There is a wealth of traffic technologies information contained in the GEWI newsletters, and now these topics are even easier to find.  Users can now quickly search Newsletters by topics like TPEG, Connected Vehicles, Safety, Weather and many, many more. 

New Search

An improved site search has been implemented, and is present on every page so that should a user not immediately find what they are looking for on that page, a quick entry of the topic into the search box will return all articles from all pages, including news, in a results window for the user.

And, as with the TIC product, look for continuous improvements in the website including future integration with GEWI's online support.
