Conference season is officially underway with GEWI exhibiting at ITS America  4-7 June in Detroit followed by ITS Canada in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.

At ITS America, GEWI, HERE Technologies and iCone combined products to demonstrate an In-Vehicle Smart Work Zone Alert intended to increase safety in Work Zones.

The TIC for Work Zone solution includes many advanced feature for planning and operation of work zones, including using TIC Product Features for Traffic Flow and Alternative Routing, both discussed in more detail in this newsletter.

Also, meet GEWI developer Sven Weisenmueller who is responsible for the TIC Traffic Flow product feature.

Alternative Routing in TIC Assists in Work Zone Planning
GEWI’s TIC Software includes a dynamic “Alternative Navigation Route” feature which automatically displays routes that will be suggested to a driver using a navigation device.

This feature provides operators at Traffic Management Centers with a powerful tool when planning work zones, or preparing to respond to an incident.

GEWI and iCone offer COTS Smart Work Zone Solution
Agencies looking to provide real-time work zone data now have an off-the-shelf solution available from GEWI and iCone.

This proven solution can be used for any stage of the work zone project cycle from planning, permitting, operations, and data sharing and exchange to all required systems, organizations and partners.

Meet GEWI at ITS America and ITS Canada
As this newsletter is being issued, GEWI is exhibiting at ITS America in Detroit, (see article above on GEWI Smart Work Zone Demonstration).  GEWI is exhibiting in booth #607 at ITS America.

Those attending ITS Canada 17-20 June at Niagara Falls Ontario will also have an opportunity to meet GEWI at booth #6 and learn about the TIC off-the-shelf solutions for a variety of traffic related projects.

TIC Traffic Flow Feature Benefits Work Zone Planning and Operations
Because GEWI’s TIC Software is used worldwide, it has been designed to be used off-the-shelf with the major global providers of traffic flow data including Google, HERE, INRIX and TomTom. The flexible architecture of TIC also enables for the use of local speed providers such as ADAC, or other system providing data in a structured format.

Bernie Wagenblast, Editor of the Transportation Communications Newsletter (TCN) recently interviewed GEWI North America's CEO Jim O'Neill about the Smart Work Zone features of the TIC Software which will power the In-vehicle demonstration at ITS America in Detroit.

Meet GEWI Developer Sven Weisenmueller
Sven
Sven joined GEWI in 2009 and has become one of the leading experts in the collection, processing and distribution of traffic flow data.

Sven graduated from the University of Leipzig with a Computer Science Degree specializing in geo-information systems, robotics and neural networks.

In addition to his responsibilities for traffic flow data, Sven is also working on the Relation and Project features of the TIC Software.
Recent projects include developing TIC server components to collect level of service (LOS) data from road sensors, and data collect components for traffic flow for a GEWI customer in Asia Pacific.
Sven speaks English and German and his guitar playing has made him a crowd favorite at previous GEWI workshops.

Talented developers like Sven are just one more reason why GEWI has kept travelers informed worldwide since 1992.
