GEWI to Demonstrate Smart Work Zone at ITS America 2019

2019 ITSA Work Zone DemoUntil recently, most information provided to the public about Work Zones included only planned activities. But today, with the advent of devices to measure precise location, speed, lane closure advice and workers present, more real-time information is available for navigation devices, VMS signs, broadcasters, apps and other systems. By providing drivers in-vehicle notifications in advance of entering the Work Zone, safety for motorists and workers is increased.

GEWI has been at the forefront of Smart Work Zone efforts with a first public conceptual demonstration with BMW at ITS World Congress in Orlando, Florida in 2011. The first European implementation of this Smart Work Zone technology was done in 2018.

Today, this technology is available as a low-cost off-the-shelf solution, and GEWI and iCone are demonstrating this technology ITS America in Washington D.C. 04-07 June, 2019.

Smart Work Zones are critical to the success of the emerging Connected and Automated Driving (CAV) market. Precise information about lane configuration changes which occur during Work Zones must be available for the CAV to operate properly in a fully automated mode.

GEWI will be exhibiting this all-in-one Work Zone solution at booth #216 during the ITS America Conference. To make an appointment for a demonstration of how GEWI’s TIC Software can be used for Work Zone planning, real-time operations, and post construction analytics, contact Jim O’Neill at jim.oneill@gewi.com or visit www.gewi.com.
