GEWI to attend the CAP Workshop 2024 in Leuven
28 Aug 2024
The Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) is an internationally recognised and implemented protocol for the collection and dissemination of information for government, weather, emergency services and disaster management coordinators globally. The annual workshop this year be will held in Leuven (Belgium) on 23 and 24 October and will bring together a broad range of global interested parties involved in providing public alerts and safety warnings.
The workshop will be hosted by the Traveller Information Services Association (TISA), U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and Alert-Hub.Org. CAP Implementation Workshops focus on emergency alerting as enabled by the CAP international standard and discuss common topics and issues on how to leverage the expanding adoption of CAP. Today, 87% of the world's population lives in a country utilising CAP data.
In 2021 GEWI participated in a German project for the BBK (The Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance), along with other partners, led by TISA, to develop an adaption of the TPEG protocol suite to allow Emergency Alerts and Warnings (EAW) to be broadcast and connected to in-vehicle navigation and mobile devices. This ensures that drivers and travellers can be kept informed and led via routes to safety in times of crisis and disaster using in-vehicle systems.
With the effects of climate change causing many wide-scale disaster events such as floods and wild fires, GEWI is focussed on developing its TIC solutions to support CAP and TPEG EAW, providing high quality traffic and traveller events in times of crisis.
