Scenarios

Truck accident

A truck accident on the A8 motorway towards Salzburg is blocking two lanes and affecting adjacent sections of the road. TIC supports the authorities throughout the entire process chain: accident detection (e.g., via eCall) – securing the accident scene – accident documentation – clearing the accident scene.

Footpath closed for telecommunications installations

As part of telecommunications work, a sidewalk along a state highway will be temporarily closed. This will affect adjacent crossings as well as pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Telekom can submit the application digitally via the TIC (through the responsible authority). This application is then forwarded to the responsible road construction authority or city, where the measure is reviewed and coordinated. The application is then either approved or rejected. TIC automatically detects conflicts with other planned projects, such as other construction sites, and provides traffic volume data for adjacent routes – ensuring smooth coordination and reliable information for all parties involved.

Cycle path closed due to flooding

Following persistent heavy rain, a major regional cycle path is impassable due to flooding. A closure is necessary, and this information must be communicated quickly to various stakeholders and integrated into existing systems. TIC enables city and municipal administrations to centrally manage such closures. The closure is recorded, validated, and automatically forwarded to relevant interfaces – including public transport services, routing platforms, traffic management systems, and information services. In addition, the system facilitates the targeted distribution of warnings and detour information via navigation systems and cycling apps – without any additional manual effort.

Major event "Marathon"

During a large-scale event such as a marathon, the TIC manages all affected traffic areas – from roads and cycle paths to footpaths. The event itself is not managed by the TIC, but the system supports all processes related to its traffic-related impact.

Wild fire

A forest fire can lead to the temporary closure or restricted use of surrounding roads. Currently, such information is often only shared by fire departments and police via social media platforms like Facebook or Instagram – without widespread dissemination.

Ferry operations restricted

During periods of low or high water, ferry service may be temporarily suspended. This affects both motorists and cyclists, who will then have to take longer detours. Ferry operators have predefined manuals and response plans – for example, for flooding or changes in signage. These scenarios can be stored directly in the TIC. This allows a measure to be activated or deactivated with just one click, without having to enter everything manually. TIC then ensures that all relevant channels are automatically informed – from navigation systems and apps to C-ITS and VMS – and that travelers always receive up-to-date information about the ferry connection.
